Without us

What would hapen if humans ceased to exist on planet earth? If a pandemic such as H1N1 wiped out our communities? Or a nuclear explosion caused our earth to become inhospitial? How long would it take for nature to take over? 1000 years? 100 years? 10 years? Like a unkempt yard, would we have trees uprooting our streets, taking back what was originally the forest? Would the ecosystems rebalance themselves? Eventually our over taxed and pollucted water systems would self regaulate back to normal pH levels, and the abundance of sealife would regenerate.
Why are we not working harder to clean up our earth. What ever you believe, if we just randomly came to being, or were gifted this planet, should we not take better care of our home? The thoughtlessness of humans terrifies me. I don't see any issue with having 'things'. Humans are hoarders, it's part of life to want things. But there is numerous ways to make less of an impact to the world during our never ending search for 'more'.
Decisions such as being 'green' should be absolutly simple. But it's not. Greeb washing is rampant in our consumeristic world. You think you are purchasing a ecologically viable package paper which hasn't been treated with unneccesary + toxic chemicals, but they chopped down most of the amazon in the process. If we have the technology to recycle organic waste into new products, why don't more companies use this procedure? People will pay for the opportunity to make the world better. There are some exceptions, but judging by the number of charities we have, complete oblivion is the minority.
If we were gone, would our world rejoice?
